Former Arsenal winger Theo Walcott has backed his former club to achieve a major domestic double this season, predicting that the Gunners could win both the Premier League and FA Cup for the first time in 25 years.
According to a report by the London Evening Standard on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, Walcott believes Arsenal have what it takes to lift both trophies during the 2026/27 campaign.
Walcott spent 12 years with Arsenal, making 397 appearances and scoring 108 goals. During his time at the Emirates, he also won two FA Cups and became an important figure in the club’s recent history.
The former England international remains seventh on Arsenal’s all-time Premier League goalscorers list, having scored 65 goals in the competition.
While sharing his predictions for the new season on TikTok, Walcott backed Arsenal to complete the Premier League and FA Cup double, something the club have not achieved since the 2001/02 season.
Arsenal secured their last domestic double in dramatic fashion. They beat Chelsea 2-0 in the FA Cup final at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium before clinching the Premier League title just four days later with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Sylvain Wiltord scored the only goal against United, sealing the title and sending the travelling Arsenal supporters into celebration.
Walcott is not the only well-known football figure to have high expectations for Arsenal this season. Gary Lineker has also previously backed the Gunners to win the Premier League, while Opta’s statistical model has identified Arsenal among the leading contenders in the Champions League.
Arsenal have completed the Premier League and FA Cup double three times in their history, with Manchester United also achieving the feat on three occasions.
The Gunners have made a strong start to the current campaign, winning their opening four Premier League matches as well as beginning their European campaign with a victory.
However, Arsenal will have to wait until January before beginning their FA Cup campaign. If Walcott’s prediction comes true, the club could return to Wembley next May with the chance to complete another memorable domestic double.
After recently ending a separate 22-year wait for a major trophy, Arsenal will now be hoping to challenge for more silverware and potentially end their 25-year wait to once again lift both the Premier League and FA Cup in the same season.
