Arsenal Step Up Interest in £17m Sturm Graz Wonderkid Ahead of January Window

Arsenal are reportedly stepping up their efforts to sign Sturm Graz youngster Luca Weinhandl, with the Gunners facing competition from Aston Villa and Brighton ahead of the January transfer window.

Mikel Arteta’s side have made an impressive start to the 2026/27 season, winning their opening seven matches across all competitions.

Arsenal strengthened their squad during the summer with the arrivals of Bruno Guimaraes, Ezri Konsa, Piero Hincapie and Christos Tzolis, while the club have also continued planning for the future by targeting promising young players.

The Gunners have already agreed deals for Andria Bartishvili, Edwin Quintero and Holger Quintero ahead of next year, and they are now reportedly keeping a close eye on 17-year-old Weinhandl.

Arsenal Target £17m Deal for Weinhandl

According to a report from Caught Offside, Arsenal are pushing strongly to sign Weinhandl and want to position themselves ahead of their Premier League rivals in the race for the highly rated midfielder.

The report describes the teenager as a major prospect at Sturm Graz and claims Arsenal have already compiled detailed scouting reports on him.

Although negotiations are not believed to have reached an advanced stage, it is reported that a package worth around £17 million could be enough to secure his signature.

A January move could therefore become a possibility if Arsenal decide to step up their interest in the coming months.

The Gunners are also expected to consider strengthening their options on the left wing, particularly following Gabriel Martinelli’s move to the Saudi Pro League.

Tzolis and Eberechi Eze can operate in that position, but Arsenal have reportedly continued to explore alternatives, with Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha also linked with the club.

Former Arsenal forward Jeremie Aliadiere recently suggested another option when asked which player he would bring in to improve the team’s attacking options.

Speaking to Live Football Tickets, Aliadiere initially mentioned Kylian Mbappe but questioned whether the Paris Saint-Germain forward would fit into Arsenal’s existing team structure.

He instead selected PSG winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, highlighting the Georgian’s work rate and ability to operate from the left side.

With Arsenal already monitoring several young players and potential first-team additions, the January transfer window could provide another opportunity for the club to strengthen both their present squad and their long-term plans.
