Carrick Reveals Manchester United Star’s Doubt for Manchester Derby

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has admitted that the club will have to wait before knowing whether Luke Shaw will be fit to face Manchester City in Sunday’s Manchester derby.

United return to Premier League action against their bitter rivals after Thursday night’s 4-0 Champions League victory over Sabah. The Red Devils were held to a 2-2 draw by Everton in their last league game and will be hoping to get back to winning ways at the weekend.

Shaw was left out of the squad for the win over Sabah after United decided not to take any chances with his fitness. The left-back also missed training on Wednesday, having been given a rest day.

Speaking after the midweek victory, Carrick explained that Shaw was not yet fully ready to return.

“We’ll have to see,” Carrick said when asked if Shaw would be available for Sunday’s derby. “We just kind of looked after him a little bit going into tonight.

“He wasn’t quite ready for it 100%, so we didn’t risk it. We’ll see how he is over the next couple of days or so.”

United will now monitor Shaw’s condition in the build-up to the derby, with his availability expected to become clearer over the next few days.
