Omar Berrada Confident He Will Not Be Implicated in Manchester City Case

Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada is reportedly confident that he will not be implicated in the Premier League case involving his former club, Manchester City.

Berrada spent several years working at City before moving across Manchester to take up his role at Old Trafford. With the Premier League’s case against City now reaching a major stage, his previous position at the club has naturally attracted attention.

According to a report from Samuel Luckhurst, Berrada is privately confident that the outcome of the case will not affect him or his position at Manchester United. There has been no suggestion in the reports that Berrada has been accused of wrongdoing.

Berrada’s Manchester City Connection

Berrada joined Manchester City in 2011 and held a number of senior positions during his time at the club before eventually becoming chief football operations officer.

He left City in 2024 after Manchester United approached him about becoming their new chief executive. He officially began his role at Old Trafford in July 2024.

His long association with City has inevitably led to questions following the Premier League case, particularly because some of the alleged breaches relate to the period in which he was working at the club.

However, previous reporting has made clear that there has been no suggestion of wrongdoing by Berrada. Manchester United have also previously expressed confidence that neither he nor other former City employees at the club would be implicated.

Jason Wilcox Also Has a City Past

Berrada is not the only senior Manchester United figure with a previous connection to Manchester City.

Jason Wilcox, who is now Manchester United’s director of football, previously worked at City as academy director before moving to Southampton and eventually joining United.

Wilcox’s history at City has also attracted attention because his time at the club overlaps with the period covered by the Premier League’s allegations.

However, as with Berrada, there has been no suggestion of wrongdoing against Wilcox. Previous reports stated that United were confident neither executive would be implicated in the case.

City’s Case Has Put Former Employees Under the Spotlight

The situation has become particularly significant following the latest developments in the Premier League case.

Recent reporting said Manchester City were found guilty of breaching Premier League financial rules, although the process remains subject to further developments and an appeal has been anticipated.

The charges cover a range of alleged financial and regulatory breaches, including matters relating to financial information, player and managerial remuneration, sponsorship and cooperation with the Premier League’s investigation.

City have consistently denied wrongdoing in relation to the allegations.

What It Means for Manchester United

For Manchester United, the immediate focus will remain on the club’s own operations rather than the previous employment history of its senior executives.

Berrada is now firmly established as United’s chief executive, while Wilcox is part of the club’s football leadership structure.

Their previous experience at City was one of the reasons their appointments attracted attention when they moved to Old Trafford, but there has been no reported evidence linking either man to wrongdoing in the Premier League case.

For now, Berrada remains confident that the case will not implicate him.

The attention surrounding the situation is unlikely to disappear immediately, though, particularly given the senior roles both former City employees now hold at Manchester United.

The coming developments in the Premier League case will therefore be closely watched across Manchester.
