Chelsea Set to Rival Real Madrid for Martin Zubimendi

Chelsea could face competition from Real Madrid in the race to sign Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi, with reports suggesting that both clubs are keeping a close eye on his situation.

According to TeamTalk on Friday, September 11, 2026, the Spain international is considering his future at the Emirates Stadium and could look at a move as early as January if his situation does not improve.

Zubimendi is reportedly frustrated by his lack of regular opportunities under Mikel Arteta. The 27-year-old played an important role in Arsenal’s Premier League title-winning campaign last season and later helped Spain lift the World Cup.

Despite the reported frustration, Zubimendi’s immediate priority is believed to be winning back his place in Arteta’s starting lineup. He is not thought to be actively pushing for a move just yet, but his long-term future could come under greater scrutiny if he continues to struggle for regular football.

Chelsea’s interest is said to have grown after their failed attempt to sign Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara during the summer transfer window. The Blues are still looking to strengthen their midfield, and Zubimendi is reportedly viewed as a player who could fit their plans.

However, Chelsea may have to contend with Real Madrid, who have been interested in the Spanish midfielder for some time. The La Liga giants are reportedly monitoring his development and could make a move if he becomes available.

For now, Zubimendi appears focused on proving himself at Arsenal. But if he cannot secure a regular starting role, speculation over a possible transfer is likely to increase as the January window approaches.

Chelsea and Real Madrid could then find themselves competing for the midfielder’s signature.
